Girlguiding nationally are working with the British Army to help provide girls with core leadership skills through activities and experiences but Staffordshire has been given a unique opportunity to trial a special event to be held locally at Swynnerton Army Training Camp (outside Eccleshall, Staffs) on:
Saturday 2nd March 2018 – Guides aged 13 and 14.
Sunday 3rd March 2018 – Senior Section aged 15 to 17
Together we want to empower girls to become the leaders of tomorrow by providing them with skills for life. Leadership and the skills needed to be a good leader are key attributes of the British Army and key features within Girlguiding. The British Army is sponsoring the Lead skills builder which forms part of the new Girlguiding programme.
The Lead skills builder focuses on girls gaining the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to be an effective leader. Developing skills in leading a team, creating a vision, compromise and negotiation. Specially designed fun activities will help girls to understand what type of leader they are and get them to identify and then play to their strengths, as well as developing new skills.
At our event the Army will deliver the following elements (plus additional exciting activities) of Skills Building Stage 5:
– Leader Style Guide
– Pick Your Battles
– Let’s Celebrate
You will need to deliver the following within your unit programme please, prior to the girls attending Swynnerton – we will ask you to confirm that this has been done just before the event:
– That’s not fair! – 30 minutes allocated time
– Enter the mentor – 60 minutes allocated time
Girls can attend this event without their unit leader and they will be allocated to one of our event leaders on the day.
The cost of the event will be £8 and this will cover refreshments, lunch, a specially designed badge & certificate for the event and the Skills Builder Lead – Level 5 Badge.
Parents will be invited to a small presentation event at the end of the day when they pick their girls up and we hope that our media team will be able to make a short film of the 2 days.
