Girlguiding nationally are working with the British Army to help provide girls with core leadership skills through activities and experiences. Following the success of our pilot event last year we will be running the event again at Site 4 MOD Stafford on:
• Saturday 7th March 2020 – Guides/Rangers aged 13 to 17
Together we want to empower girls to become the leaders of tomorrow by providing them with skills for life
Leadership and the skills needed to be a good leader are key attributes of the British Army and key features within Girlguiding. The British Army is sponsoring the Lead skills builder which forms part of the new Girlguiding programme.
The Lead skills builder focusses on girls gaining the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to be an effective leader. Developing skills in leading a team, creating a vision, compromise and negotiation. Specially designed fun activities will help girls to understand what type of leader they are and get them to identify and then play to their strengths, as well as developing new skills.
At the Site 4 MOD Stafford event the Army will deliver the following elements (plus additional exciting activities) of Skills Building Stage 5:
• Leader Style Guide
• Pick Your Battles
• Let’s Celebrate
• That’s Not Fair
You will need to deliver the following within your unit programme, prior to the girls attending the event – we will ask you to confirm that this has been done just before the event:
• Enter the mentor – 60 minutes allocated time
Girls can attend this event without their unit leader, but they will be allocated to one of our event leaders on the day.
The cost of the event is £5 and this will cover refreshments, a specially designed badge & certificate for the event and the Skills Builder Lead – Level 5 Badge. Girls will need to bring their own packed lunch. Parents will be invited to a small presentation event at the end of the day when they pick their girls up.
You can download a flyer for you to give to your girls/parents to gain expressions of interest – closing date will be Friday 31st January 2020 – don’t delay there are only 60 places available.
