Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from Rykneld District in Needwood Division were recently invited by Youth United to attend a ceremony at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas. The ceremony commemorated the Victoria Cross heroes from the First World War who were born overseas. During the service 145 paving stones were unveiled paying tribute to servicemen born across 19 different countries. Communities Secretary, Eric Pickles MP, gave the welcome and the Prime Minister, David Cameron, gave the address. The girls and their leaders were all excited and honoured to be able to take part in the service alongside young people from Scouting, Fire Cadets and the Boys Brigade.
