There was great excitement at 1st Eccleshall Brownies prior to the wedding of one of their leaders, Alice Shaw (Little Owl), to Carl Norton.  The Brownies made paper lanterns decorated with messages for the happy couple.  These formed part of the decorations in church as did the beautiful pink mauve and white paper flowers they made to decorate the church porch. Their present to Little Owl was a heart shaped picture made up of decorated little wooden hearts with a message from each Brownie. The wedding took place at High Offley Church on Valentine’s Day.

On the big day the Brownies were shown to VIP seats so that they could get a good view of the marriage service.  Some Brownies had never been to a wedding before so were moved to tears especially when Alice was making her vows.

After the service the Brownies wanted to know where their piece of wedding cake was and Brown Owl had to explain that the cake was cut at the reception and not the church and they would have to wait!

Amazingly, Alice has been a member of Eccleshall District Girlguiding for over eighteen years.  She was a Rainbow and Brownie in Woodseaves, a Guide in Eccleshall before joining 1st Eccleshall Brownies as a Young Leader then going on to take the leadership qualification to become an Adult Leader. Mrs Sheila Slaney, Division Commissioner for Stone and Eccleshall, and who guides with Alice, said that “Alice is 110% reliable and dependable and  it has been a pleasure for me to have guided alongside her for the past four years. It was wonderful being able to share in her special day and one that the Brownies will never forget.”
