Training Team ALQ
Being a leader is one of our most rewarding roles and without leaders, guiding simply would not happen. You can work directly with girls, supporting them and helping them to grow into confident young people.
To become a leader you need to gain your Leadership Qualification. You will need to be 18 years old. If you are a Young Leader aged 16, you can start working on the Leadership Qualification but will not become a leader until you are 18.
During the Leadership Qualification, you work with the girls, gaining practical experience. You will learn a great deal, in particular about:
- Your role in the programme
- The Five Essentials – to support the development of girls
- Running the unit
- Communicating with parents
- How to create a safe environment and more.
- You can find out more about this in the Introduction to Guiding section of the Guiding manual
Interested in finding out more?
Speak to your local commissioner or unit leader to find out more. If you decide you want to do the Leadership Qualification, you will be assigned a Mentor. You will not be on your own, there are many people in guiding who are able to support you. The Leadership Qualification should take about six months to complete.
Staffordshire Leadership Induction Programme
The Staffordshire Leadership Induction Programme (SLIP) is an exciting new way of completing the Leadership Qualification as quickly as possible while at the same time gaining lots of ideas for the weekly meeting and sharing experiences with other leaders new to Girlguiding.
To find out when the next SLIP sessions are taking place please visit our What’s On page.
Information to help you gain your LQ
There are a few useful documents that will help you when putting together your folder of evidence for your Leadership Qualification.
The Weekly Planning Sheet helps you to highlight which of the Five Essentials are being incorporated into your programme planning. You can download the sheet in either a PDF or Word Document format.
If you’re a Young Leader considering doing your Adult Leadership Qualification this Cross Reference sheet will help you to see which aspects you may have already completed by doing your Young Leader Qualification.
The Evidence Matrix helps you to easily identify which modules various evidence can be used for.
