Members of Uttoxeter Division and their families and friends have been busy collecting toiletries and grooming products to create comfort bags for use in Burton Hospital.
The idea came from an article about a similar scheme spotted in a Manchester newspaper by local leader Hazel Berrisford. Hazel contacted Burton Hospital and spoke to their Community & Partnerships Manager, Chris Maddox. Chris was delighted to hear that Uttoxeter Division were keen to help support those in need of simple comforts during their hospital stay.
The 15 Rainbow, Brownies, Guide and Ranger units in Uttoxeter publicised the request for shampoos, shower gels, flannels, toothpaste, toothbrushes, children’s games and notepads. After just six weeks of collecting they were amazed to have enough items to fill 140 bags.
The bags were packed at Kingstone Village Hall on 22nd November by a group of Rainbows, Brownies and Guides before being handed over to Chris Maddox to be transported to the hospital.
The girls had fun selecting the various items for inclusion whilst keeping their Girlguiding Promise to serve their community and help other people.
