1st Walton Rainbows recently gained their bee rescuer badge. They were helped by local volunteer, Ron Rock, who volunteers with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.

Ron led the Rainbows on a bumblebee hunt on the school grounds, helped them create a bumblebee mobile and shared lots of interesting facts about the 24 species of bumblebees that can be found in the UK; who know that bumblebees have five eyes and Ron told them how to tell if a bumblebee was getting angry; they start to raise their middle leg. The Rainbows also created their very own bumblebee baths in their own gardens using bowls of water filled with pebbles.

Jane West, one of the Rainbow Leaders , commented: “it was lovely to see the Rainbows really engaged and Ron was brilliant with his imparting his knowledge and love of bumblebees. Well done, Rainbows!”.

The badge is one of 12 new badges that have been introduced to the Rainbow programme.

Ron awarded the Rainbows with their badge and £25 was collected and handed over to Ron for the valuable work of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
